Yarra Junction CC
Yarra Junction 1st XI Match Report
The Eagles ventured our to Gruyere in the last match before the Christmas break. With Gruyere winning the toss the Eagles where sent into bowl.
The Eagles went about there early season form and showed that there seam attack is amongst the competitions best. Opening pairing Nick Bark (4/23) and Nick Lawlor (1/23) again leading the way.
As has been for much of the year, the Eagles bowling depth showed its strength with Terry Ottrey (3/18) and Kevin Bomford (2/11) putting a strangle hold on the Scorpions middle/lower order keeping them to a low total of 89.
As has been the way for most of the year, the Eagles “internationals” Andy Wear and Andrew Taylor went to work on the lightning quick ground.
With the early loss of Taylor, Marcel Kocher joined Wear at the crease. The Pair pushed on and got the Eagles within 5 runs to win before Kocher unluckily lost his wicket.
Adam Waixel made sure that there would be no more issues in the chase as he accompanied Andy Wear to victory in the 13th over. Andy Wear bringing up his 2nd consecutive half century finishing 58 not out.
The Eagles go into the Christmas break clear 2nd on the ladder. A fantastic start to the season!
Yarra Junction wish everyone a safe and happy holidays! Merry Christmas!
Match Report Round 2 vs Warburton
The eagles found themselves in there first home game of the year against defending premiers Warburton/Milgrove. With captain Kevin Bomford losing the toss we where sent into field.
What was poised as an intense contest didn't disappoint with the battle with the new ball and Warburton's top order hanging on a knifes edge. With Nick Lawlor (2/24) striking a crucial blow late in his first spell, the game was still dead even.
With a change of bowling from both ends came match winning spells from BRADLEY NIGHTINGALE (3/11) and TERRY OTTREY (1/21). With Warburton's top order back in the shed the eagles entire bowling attack lifted to restrict the dangerous Warburton batting line up to 110.
Again at the top of the order our "internationals" came out firing with ANDREW TAYLOR (39) and ANDY WEAR (22) setting another platform for the Eagles to pounce.
With a minor rough patch in which the Eagles lost 3 quick wickets, that would be the obly blemish on the day with MATTHEW HAMMOND (24*) and PAT FORD (16*) guiding Yarra Junction to an incredible 7 wicket victory!
Our 1st XI and our entire club will use this win as a major confidence boost and platform for a major campaign in 2017/18!
Match Report Round 1 vs Launching Place
With the season finally upon us, our 1st XI ventured out to Launching Place. With a late withdrawal giving TYSON GASKETT his 1st XI debut! Congratulations Tyson! As well as playing there first game for the club ADAM WAIXEL and ANDY WEAR!
After losing the toss and being sent into bowl, Junctions seam attack made quick inroads with Barky (3/24) and lawlor (2/33). With the gaps between slip and gully being LPUCCs only real avenue for scoring, it was a test of the Eagles patience.
With the change of bowling came another burst of wickets with Jesse Cook (2/14) leading the charge with his sheer pace and bounce!
With wickets to all bowlers, the Eagles bowled out LPUCC for 110.
With the bat it was an international flavour at the top of the Eagles order with the "Andy's" setting out with the task!
From here it was all Eagles, with a masterclass of power hitting from Andrew Taylor (63) and Andy Wear (34*). It was raining boundaries to all parts of the ground, it seemed over in the blink if an eye. A handy contribution from Matt Robinson (16*) seeing the Eagles to an incredible win in the 19th over!
Plenty of positives from all players, with a big game against Warburton/Milgrove next week it's important ALL players get down to training!
